We traveled to Scotland in late Spring for our family weekend in Fife and loved the drive over the Forth Road Bridge and into the Scottish countryside beyond. This is such a great area to visit to enjoy the outdoors but without being as remote as some other areas of Scotland. We stayed in the Garden Cottage on the Kinloss Estate, Cupar and it was the perfect weekend retreat.

The Kinloss Estate is in the sweet little town of Derideabout 30 minutes from St Andrews.
The estate has been in the continuous ownership of the same family for over 130 years.
The Garden Cottage feels very secluded and is set down a beautiful long winding road by itself. Until 1950 it belongs to the head gardener of the Estate and is a beautiful space for a family to stay and relax in any season.
We visited when the surrounding land was covered in the beautiful white flowers of wild garlic.
Garden Cottage, Kinloss Estate, Cupar, Fife, Scotland – Sleeps
The Garden Cottage sleeps four to five easily. It has a really sweet and comfortable lounge which has a fire which comes complete with logs and coal.
And a lovely dining room, laid out and ready to use.
There is also a small kitchen.
Which comes with basic supplies including eggs from the local hens, butter, some biscuits, milk and a big old loaf of bread.
There is also a downstairs loo. Upstairs there is one double bedroom.
And a twin bedroom.
There was also a modern family bathroom.
The Best Bits:
We loved the quiet at the Garden Cottage. Ducks landed on the lawn and it felt like the wildlife was all around.
It wasn’t far to get to the town but really did feel like we were in the middle of the countryside.
There were lovely touches like fresh flowers and the views around were beautiful.
Worth Bearing in Mind:
There is a very small stream running along the boundary of the property so keep an eye on very small children.
Garden Cottage, Kinloss Estate, Cupar, Fife, Scotland – Child Friendly?
The Garden Cottage is ideal for families with gorgeous grounds all around to explore and some play equipment outside the front too.
It felt lovely to have the front door open while the children played in the garden.
There are books and dvds in the cottage for the children which was really appreciated.
We really loved our time at The Garden Cottage at the Kinloss Estate and I would love to return in another season to see the changes in the countryside.
