Picking Your Accommodation

Where you’ll spend your time on the vacation is as important as the holiday itself.

You can pick anything from a included cabin in the woods to a villa overlooking the mountains.

Just make sure you’ve considered the number of people going with you.

If you’re a family of six and above, the large cabins in Gatlinburg are a great option.

Pack the right Items for the Smoky Mountains with kids

Traveling light is the key, especially when you’re going to the mountains.

If you’re just going to be hanging around the cabin, you probably don’t need more than some basic toiletries and some clothes.

But, if you’re planning to go hiking or white water rafting (which we hope you are), make sure you have the right gear. In short, pack smart, and don’t forget the suncream, bug spray, and your shades.

Plan Your Activities

The Great Smoky Mountains provides many activities for people of all ages. If you’re visiting the Smoky Mountains with kids there’s plenty to enjoy.

The trails and the parks are perfect for a family picnic or a hike. The clear streams and rivers offer ample opportunities for fishing and swimming.

You can also enjoy (and play) a game of golf, go horseriding, or try zip lining.

If you’re traveling with kids, don’t forget to add a trip to Dollywood to your itinerary.

It’s one of the best family-friendly amusement parks in the country. You can ride rollercoasters, watch live shows, and enjoy delicious food.

It’s an ideal way to end a fun-filled day in the mountains.

Stock Enough Snacks and Drinks for your Smoky Mountains with kids trip

The costs of food and drinks in the mountains can be quite high, especially if you’re staying in one of the pricier resorts.

Even though most places have a fully stocked kitchen, the prices of groceries can be through the roof.

To save money and avoid having to go out all the time, we recommend you bring some snacks and drinks.

Some cabins offer a BBQ grill for free use to their guests, so make sure you ask about it in advance.

Finding Pet-Friendly Options

Leaving behind our furry four-legged buddies is not an option for some of us.

If you’re one of those people (and obviously live in the US), don’t worry, Gatlinburg is a pet-friendly city.

You’ll find plenty of cabins and hotels that allow pets. You can leave your pooch to enjoy their time at the Doggywood when you and your kids go to Dollywood.

It’s a doggy daycare that offers a safe and fun environment for your pet while you’re away.

Places to Eat in Gatlinburg

You can never leave food out of the equation when planning a family trip.

Luckily, the culinary scene in Gatlinburg is as diverse as its activities.

From fine dining to quick bites, you’ll find everything here. And if you want a taste of the South, head to The Cabin Coffeehouse and Cafe.

They serve breakfast all day long, and their pancakes are to die for.

For some authentic Mexican food, we recommend No Way Jose’s Cantina.

The enchiladas and the margaritas are our favourite.

And if you’re looking for a quick bite, check out the Smoky Mountain Trout House. The fish and chips here are some of the best in town.

End with a Bang on your trip to the Smoky Mountains with kids

No trip is complete without some fireworks, and Gatlinburg knows how to put on a good show. Every night, you can catch a glimpse of the Gatlinburg Space Needle as it lights up with a spectacular firework display.

Your kids, and even you, will be in awe of the vibrant colors and the loud bangs.

It’s the perfect way to end a great day in the mountains.

Don’t forget to capture the moments of heartfelt laughter, awe-inspiring views, and pure bliss in a photo with your family.

After all, those are the memories that you’ll cherish until your next trip.
