Child injured as firework thrown in Glasgow

A child in a pram was injured after a firework was thrown at a mother and her children in Glasgow on Halloween night. The incident happened on Saturday, October 31, at around 6:30pm in Linkwood Place, Drumchapel. The alarming incident occurred when the projectile was hurled towards the family as they walked along the street.

The projectile struck one of the children, who was in the pram, and sustained minor injuries. Police Scotland condemned the “reckless” act, which left the woman and her children shaken. The force warned it could have ended “much worse”. An investigation has been launched to find the person responsible.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident or people carrying fireworks in the area to come forward. They are also urging the public to check private CCTV or dash-cam footage for anything that could help the investigation.

Detective Constable Ashley Convery said, “This was a completely reckless act that left the woman and her children understandably shaken. The child sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident, but it could’ve ended much worse.” He added, “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed people in the area that evening in possession of fireworks to please come forward with information. I would also ask those with private CCTV or dash-cam footage to review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.” This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and additional officers will be out across the community ahead of Bonfire Night.

Operation Moonbeam and Wider Disorder

This event is part of a wider issue of disorder on Halloween. Police Scotland responded to 144 calls related to fireworks across the country on October 31, down from 160 the previous year. While police noted “outstanding behaviour and co-operation” overall, they are committed to apprehending those causing trouble.

Similar incidents were reported in Glasgow, Tranent, and Bonnyrigg, where fireworks were ignited in the streets and thrown at people. Investigations to identify those involved are ongoing. Firework control zones, where setting off fireworks is a criminal offence, are currently in place across 14 areas in Edinburgh and four in Glasgow until early November.

In response, Operation Moonbeam has been deployed. This operation runs until November 5 and uses specially trained officers to manage violence and disorder. Anyone who engages in this type of reckless behaviour will be identified and brought to justice. Seven dispersal orders were issued in Edinburgh, while efforts were under way to establish the total number issued in Glasgow in connection with Operation Moonbeam.

Anyone with information about the Glasgow incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2804 of October 31, 2026. Details can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
