Japan Airlines’ capacity outstrips demand amid COVID curbs, official says

SYDNEY (Reuters) -Japan Airlines Co Ltd (JAL) is operating at 65% of its pre-pandemic international capacity, although COVID-19 curbs are limiting demand to just about 40% of pre-pandemic levels, an airline executive said on Tuesday .

In the domestic market, the airline is operating at 100% of its pre-pandemic capacity, though demand is about 80% of corresponding levels, said Akihide Yoguchi, JAL’s vice president of strategy research for the Asia Oceania region.

“Demand for domestic has recovered faster than international, like many other markets,” he said at a CAPA Center for Aviation conference.

Tokyo Weekender recently asked Japanese American musician Sen Morimoto seven questions ahead of his Japan tour, which begins this week.

Involved in production and songwriting while also playing various instruments, Morimoto is a multi-talented individual. Closely tied with jazz, pop and hip hop, he previously collaborated with the likes of American singer and songwriter Kaina (stylized in all caps), Japanese rapper Aaamyyy and hip hop group Pivot Gang.

His saxophone-infused debut album Cannonball! was co-released with media giant 88Rising. Its a follow-up, Sen Morimoto in 2020 was released on his own label, Sooper Records and won critical acclaim from publications

Police hunt suspects after killing spree in Saskatchewan

At the very least 10 folks have been killed and one other 15 injured in a stabbing rampage in Canada’s central Saskatchewan province, police say.

The victims had been present in 13 places within the James Smith Cree Nation and close by village of Weldon.

Two suspects named as Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson are on the run and regarded armed and harmful.

Residents have been advised to shelter in place, as a large manhunt continues throughout an enormous geographical space.
